Is the meal replacement shake considered a low glycemic supplement?
Posted by Stephan Mackenzie on 22 April 2011 11:18 AM
The primary carbohydrate in the meal replacement formula is fructose. Fructose as its main sugaris a slower digesting sugar. Fructose is classified as a "Sugar" on FDA labeling even though it has one of the lowest glycemic indexes. Fructose does little to spike your blood sugar levels, rather, it is processed by the liver and stored as glycogen until you run very low on blood and muscle glycogen stores. So this formula can be considered a lower glycemic food or supplement.
