Is quick weight loss rocket science?

I sat down to eat with a friend recently who, each and every time (I’m serious…EVERY time) we get together, the conversation lapses into their struggles with weight management. I’ve been telling this person for years now that fat loss and weight management are not rocket science. They simply require some basic disciplines and consistently applied strategies.

“But Steve, you don’t understand how hard it is for me to do that. I DO work out, (verbal emphasis and tonality on the word “do”) it’s just that I love food SO much.” (Again, the same emphasis applied)

I guess I was a little on edge that day, because I pointed to what was on their plate and, in a tone I later realized was near to the exact sound a screeching owl makes said, “You call that food? Listen, food isn’t your problem…it’s that processed junk you’ve been shoving down your pie-hole that you CALL food that is the problem!” (Now it my turn to place a little verbal emphasis!)

We live in a fast paced society, fraught with quick fixes and instantaneous gratifications. In and of themselves, they are not that bad. Some are even profitable for life and health.

However, when it comes to food, and the millions of opportunities we are afforded, quick fixes and shortcuts do not make the grade.

Here are three rules I want you to burn indelibly into your brain:

1. If your goal is fat loss and good health, no amount of hard work can overcome the effects of a crappy diet. None.

2. Eat to live, don’t live to eat.

3. Eat foods in their natural state, like God made them, or as close to it as you can find them and you will never, ever have a weight problem.

Like Jack Lalanne says, “If it has been touched (or altered) by the hand of man, avoid it at all costs.”

Sounds like wisdom is calling your number.
